Material Removal at Medical Device Manufacturer by Fanuc Robot
|
ACME Manufacturing Company of Auburn Hills, Michigan implemented a robotic finishing system that utilized a FANUC Robotics' M-16i R-J3 robot to emulate the movement of manual polishing orthopedic implant devices. The 35-lb., 6-axis robot works with four, ACME-designed and built finishing heads to metal finish an orthopedic implant in one continuous step. Specialized tooling developed by ACME is used to orient, fixture, and polish a component to within a +/- .005" tolerance. A touch screen operator interface panel enables the machine operator to create, retrieve, and change part programs. |

Grinding of chainsaw tracks by KuKa Robotics
|
In order to achieve higher quality and shorter cycle times, STIHL wanted an automated solution for the grinding and deburring of wear protectors welded onto the bars of its chain saws, thus replacing the existing manual work stations. The grinding application uses a compact robotic cell with a KUKA KR 30 HA robot (six-axis jointed-arm robot). The welded chain saw bars move along a roller conveyor to the robotic cell, where an automatic handling device positions them in a locating station. The KR 30 HA grasps the part using the clamping jaws of its pneumatic gripper. The robot then uses two grinding units to create a smooth transition to the weld seam on both sides of the bar. After that it moves the part to its vision system, which measures its quality on the basis of gray-scale images. Upon completion of the deburring of the ground surfaces using a double brush unit, the KR 30 HA then stacks the bars on one of two europallets in a nearby locating fixture. |

Rimrock RoboRouter Robotic Cutting System
|
RoboRouter- Robotic automation of routing, cutting, & trimming processes for composite and plastic parts. The RoboRouter product line is a pre-engineered robotic trimming system which utilizes a six axis industrial robot with a mechanical spindle cutter. The standard routing system robot is an ABB IRB 4400 robot due to its high path accuracy & repeatability making it the ideal trimming robot. Robotic cutting can be performed with thermoformed plastic, rotationally molded plastic, blow molded plastic, injection molded plastic, fiberglass reinforced plastic, and other composite materials. The RR-100 is a basic robotic routing system designed for small to medium part sizes with a turntable infeed & outfeed device for continuous production. The RR-200 is designed for large plastic or composite parts and utilizes an inverted robot. When used with an optional gantry track the RR-200 robotic trimming system can accommodate parts up to 40? long. Rimrock?s RoboRouter systems include options to upgrade for additional process requirements such as dust containment, multiple tool changes, and large parts. |

RPT Robotic Laser Cutting System
| Robotic Laser Cutting System: Focus to support the manufacturing factory floor of automotive interior trim suppliers, the robotic laser cutting system can incorporate a variety of sealed CO2 lasers - from 100 watts up to 500 watts while using only ''4'' external optics to get the laser beam from the resonator to the focus lens. The system also features no external cables to the robotic wrist so the two wrist axes - #4 and #5 - are capable of rotating continuously. | ![]() |

Robots that grinds, sands, debur, polish, rolls, remove metal parts to precision are generally called as Material Removal Robot. Because of the precise nature of the robotic system, high quality of material removal can be achieved. For example, a material removal robot can be as used to remove spots on jewelry precisely. |
